May 12, 2021There is absolutely no problem with you not naming your schools but can you please indicate in which country or county or city and decade?
No problem at all.

Hello Karl,
Good to see you back! A most interesting contribution, thank you. Despite only catching the tail end of the English SCP era in your schooldays you seem to have done rather better for yourself as regards personal experience and material for this Forum than I did. Although I was at school in the late 1940s and the 1950s, when SCP was used in most schools and heavily used in some, I clocked up the magnificent total of one smacked leg and one non-memorable slippering, both in primary school. I have felt this to be a handicap here ever since I joined.

Thanks for the welcome back, I’ve not really been away, just trawling my way through previous topics and doing a bit of the old research. Last night I felt it was time for another contribution. Anyway, I’ve been looking into other Junior schools in the same area and it does seem the norm for the area I grew up. People say that Hull was literally the end of the line and consequently always behind the times, perhaps this contributed to why CP was so common in this area in the years leading up to the ban. Regarding my personal experiences, I was far from an angel, but there were boys and girls far naughtier than myself. I certainly wasn’t the most punished boy in my school. I was punished more by female teachers, but I just put that down to that there were more female teachers around, just my good fortune really.

The Ghostbusters fiasco wasn’t spontaneous, if I remember correctly my friend and I were sent out of the class for the remainder of the movie. After the movie ended and the rest of the class were dismissed we were both called back into the classroom and had to apologise to her and were told to report to her again after school. We were then slippered individually. I had to lean against a table and got 3 whacks, then my friend got the same. It did sting a bit, but we both had a good laugh about it afterwards.

My primary school did a lot of spur of the moment leg and bum slapping — but there was no formal bend-over stuff. Even at that age I found the idea of a formal skippering like you got incredibly exciting, and unbelievably terrifying at the same time. Of course the comics of the time pushed the idea that bending over and getting whacked on the bum was the main point of school!
Did you know you were going to get slippered when you reported after school?
Did the teacher say the magic words “bend over”?
Did your parents find out you’d been whacked?
Did you boast about it to your other friends afterwards?
Was there any admiring of marks?

I can’t recall any bend over slipperings in primary school, and from your description it sounds like my school was similar to yours in that respect. Regarding getting the slipper in juniors, it was nearly always in P.E. We had a male and female teacher and generally for the P.E lessons boys and girls were separated. I can’t remember the magic words ‘bend over’ being ordered. We were sort of just conditioned to do so. The majority of P.E slipperings were just one or two whacks and almost always by the male teacher. From what I remember the slipperings were also double standards as both male and female teachers could, would and did slipper boys. But, I never heard of a male teacher actually slippering a girl, though there are multiple sources of evidence of it happening at other schools within the city.
Regarding the slippering my friend and I received from Miss Gozer. We strongly suspected we’d get the slipper because we’d both witnessed her use it on boys in P.E as well as wrist/ruler slappings on boys and girls in other lessons. Again, I can’t recall if she said the magic word ‘bend over’ I think I just did it automatically. I don’t think my parents found out. In all fairness my parents weren’t of the get punished at school get punished home brigade, so they would have considered the matter dealt with it. Getting the slipper was a badge of honour, but less than the reason for it. I remember one lad getting the slipper for setting fireworks off at playtime. He became a legend for his deed and less so his punishment. Also, I was never one for comparing or admiring marks, apart from a self-examination in the mirror.

I was only slippered by the teacher in my first two years was a female teacher who would bend you over telling to touch your toes and give you anything from 3 to 12 strikes across your underpants
